We have multiple openings for undergraduate level students to engage in practical experience to further their educational goals. If you are energetic and enthusiastic with knowledge and interest in at least one of these skill areas: modeling and simulation, mechanical or electrical systems, materials, manufacturing, hypersonic computational fluid dynamics, compressible fluid dynamics, numerical systems, thermal protection material response, reduced order modeling, or test engineering this internship could be a good match for you. You will have the chance to support engineering projects involving computational analysis. These positions are in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) supporting the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Work directly with a mentor in your field of study while finding solutions to real world problems.
- Under close supervision, participate in high enthalpy flow fields research in assigned area.
- Gather and analyze data or information in support of engineering research.
- Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
- Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.
- Attend relevant seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering or other related fields.
- Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during the summer.
- A track record of outstanding academic performance.
- Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
- Must have excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications
- GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Technical project experience, internships, leadership experience.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:  This is a Temporary Student Intern appointment.  This assignment is for a full-time position during the summer academic break; a co-op position, full-time during the academic semester/quarter, or a year-round part-time position during the academic year and full time during academic breaks.
