We have an opening for a Limited X-ray Technician/Medical Assistant.  Under minimal supervision of the Clinical Supervisor this position will implement and support clinical x-ray services and is responsible for the day to day operations of the radiography program.  In addition, you will provide support to the overall functioning of the clinic; preparing patients for physical examination and wellness appraisals, performing vital signs and other medical testing.  You will interact with patients and multidisciplinary health professionals.  This position is in the Health Services Department within the Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the 542.1 or 542.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide clinical x-ray services according to applicable procedures.
- Participate in HSD Radiology program while ensuring Accreditation Association for     Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) requirements are in place.
 - Responsible for maintaining the standards of the x-ray unit in accordance with State and Federal guidelines, including assisting in State audits and AAAHC audits involving the x-ray.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for physical examinations.
- Perform and accurately document measurements of height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and body fat.
 - Perform and accurately document spirometry, audiometry, vision, and electrocardiogram tests.
 - Perform medical assistance in Treatment Area (blood pressure checks, parking passes, etc.).
 - Ensure readiness of Treatment Area (calibrate, equipment maintenance, supplies, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the 542.2 Level
- Coordinate the Radiology Program, including equipment maintenance, performing audits, and obtaining verification and certification from qualified agencies.
- Evaluate radiology operational procedures and make recommendations and updates to policies and procedures.  Ensure accuracy and compliance of all radiology logs to maintain AAAHC requirements.
- Provide flu shots and fingerstick assessments for lipid and glucose testing.  Perform phlebotomy for blood testing and place intravenous catheters for delivery of fluids and medication.

- Limited California X-ray certification.
- Experience providing clinical X-ray services.
- Experience interacting effectively with patients and multidisciplinary health professions.
 - Experience working in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment, exercising discretion and sound judgment in processing and safeguarding information of a sensitive nature.
 - Ability to work both independently and as a team member with effective interpersonal skills.
 - Ability to set and rearrange priorities on short notice.
- Ability to adjust work schedules to accommodate patient flow/departmental demands as necessary.
 - Willingness and ability to learn new responsibilities and basic medical records support tasks.

In Addition at the 542.2 Level
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Certification in performing audiogram and spirometry medical testing.
- Certification as a Phlebotomist and certification as a Medical Assistant.


Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.  In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  L-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
