We have an opening for a highly experienced Laser Physicist to independently guide the development, research, design, analysis, modeling, testing, and fielding of highly advanced laser technology and systems. You will provide technical direction to an interdisciplinary team developing and deploying state-of-the art high intensity, high energy, short pulse laser systems for DOE (Department of Energy) and LLNL mission needs. This position is in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science (NIF & PS) Principal Associate Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the SES.4 or SES.5 level depending on qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide strategies and direct efforts of interdisciplinary teams that research, design, develop, integrate and field energetic laser systems, high peak power lasers and high average power laser technologies, incorporating essential new physics and new technologies to meet priorities of evolving missions.
- Guide systems design and apply system engineering principles to a wide variety of highly complex laser design and analysis projects using novel approaches to develop operational, system, and subsystem solutions.
- Lead experiments in the fields of short pulse, high power and energy laser physics, laser secondary source generation.
- Direct/ lead laser experiments that test highly advanced new physics and modeling capability in collaboration with laboratory scientists and engineers.
- Set broad project vision and strategy and influence technical direction for self and others, while providing technical and intellectual leadership on research and development projects.
- Prepare and provide technical presentations and publications for internal and external audiences.
- Advise senior management and/or external sponsors on involved technical strategies.
