We have multiple openings for Computer Vision Scientists. You will perform research in the broad area of computer vision/machine learning for problems involving imagery, video, and high dimensional data. You will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of problems such as medical imaging, energy grid analytics, multi-modal information retrieval, and additive manufacturing. These positions are in the Computational Engineering Division (CED) within the Engineering Directorate.
These positions will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
Essential Duties
- Develop novel approaches for supervised and unsupervised analysis of complex data within application domains.
- Implement associated algorithms and apply them to relevant data.
- Contribute to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Interpret and present results to internal and external customers.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Organize and analyze data from research, present results at technical meetings and national conferences, and publish novel research results in peer reviewed literature.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Provide technical leadership for specific projects and lead the development of advanced algorithms in support of R&D efforts.
- Develop new ideas and project proposals for future data challenges.
- PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, applied statistics or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in Computer Vision including experience in algorithm development.
- Experience with one or more higher-level programming languages such as C/C++, Java, or Python.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Advanced knowledge and significant experience with technical project leadership.
- Significant experience with research proposal writing.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, document work, prepare and present successful proposals and high-quality research papers, and provide advice to management.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Unix systems and high-performance computing clusters.
- Experience with issues related to data provenance and management.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
