We have an opening for a Chief of Staff in the Office of the Principal Associate Director of the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Directorate. You will act as a senior advisor to the PAD and serve to focus WCI on timely responses to major programmatic issues and actions. As the Chief of Staff, you will act as the PADO coordinator for enhancing the strategic direction of key WCI partnerships and relationships. WCI is a complex multi-discipline program directorate with a $1.2B annual funding portfolio supporting over 2,100 employees.  
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Act as the focal point for the scientific and workforce activities of the Principal Associate Director’s senior staff ensuring priorities are understood and responses to actions from stakeholders are timely.
  • Responsible for ensuring effective and timely program responses to external sponsor requirements by coordinating, reviewing, and communicating work of program staff.
  • Establish work plans and delegate assignments to Technical Staff Leaders. Manage schedules, performance standards, develop and establish operational policies.
  • Oversee timely and effective communication from the PAD both internal and external to the laboratory.
  • Participate in the development of organizational strategies and priorities. Negotiate with management and/or internal/external customers/sponsors regarding matters of significance to the organization.
  • Develop key WCI internal and external strategic relationships for the program and oversee activity to ensure these relationships are being maintained, working with the PADO.
  • Conduct and prepare briefings for sponsors, major committees, and review groups, in collaboration with the Principal Associate Director and senior staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD in physical sciences or related technical fields or the equivalent combination of education and related experience, and extensive experience resolving complex problems and developing, planning, and coordinating solutions.
  • Strong record of technical innovation and leadership of creative scientific initiatives with advance knowledge spanning one or more specialized technical fields.
  • Extensive experience managing one or more technical areas with a strategic focus, working effectively under multiple deadlines and resolving conflicting requirements successfully.
  • Extensive knowledge of Laboratory programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills necessary to direct an organization, lead innovative research and operations, build cooperative multi-disciplinary teams, and interact with management and customers/sponsors.Experience interacting with and negotiating on matters of significance to WCI.
  • experience working in a senior management team environment that has demonstrated high-level leadership and personnel management skills.
  • ability to work with and maintain effective working relationships with a broad cross-section of management, technical and administrative personnel.
  • Experience dealing effectively at high levels within internal and external organizations and constituencies, such as the NNSA/DOE, DoD, and other organizations.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
