The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Research Library has immediate openings for Graduate Student Interns or recent Masters Graduates (within one year of graduating). The successful candidate is currently enrolled in a graduate program or recently graduated with a master’s degree in Library and Information Science.  The internship is for the summer of 2019 (Full-Time 10 weeks) with possibility of extension (Part-Time). You will work with all library staff on projects and report to the Library Manager.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a research library.

Essential Duties
•Provide reference service to patrons in the Physical and Life Sciences (in person and email) using research databases such as Scopus and Web of Science; Collect, track and summarize reference and circulation statistics; Assist patrons with public computers.
•Develop library webpages and subject guides (LibGuides, LibApps, html, css); Develop quick 2-minute tutorials to support scientist’s needs for independent, asynchronous learning.
•Assist in circulation and collection management; reshelve print books and journals; Assist users with checking out books; Prepare print journal holdings for contribution to shared print archives; Deaccession and shift print collections; Update holdings metadata (serials cataloging).
•Assist in post-digitization support and metadata management; Conduct quality assurance reviews of digitized technical reports and rescan, as needed; Analyze and edit technical reports metadata in preparation for migrations to a new Library Management System.
•May develop information literacy and instruction sessions in area of interest and Laboratory need; Collection development review in a subject area: comparative study of e-resource holdings; ERM: E-Resource usage data collection and cost-per-use studies.
•Library Management System migration strategies - literature search and development of one aspect.
•Research Data Management - literature search and development of one aspect.

•Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a graduate degree or a recent master’s graduate within one year
•Excellent attention to detail.
•Effective oral and written communication skills with users.
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as needed.
•Curiosity and interest in exploring areas of information science and librarianship; keen interest in learning from the experiences of other libraries and incorporating experiences into projects.
•Professional interest in reference, engagement and instruction, e-resource management, metadata management or research data management.


•Background or knowledge of physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, computation, life sciences, security studies is a plus.
