Job Search/Applying

Q: How long are jobs posted?

Our jobs are posted for a minimum of seven calendar days. Once this minimum posting requirement has been met, postings are removed at the discretion of the hiring organization.

Q: I applied for a job online. Who can I contact regarding the status of my application?

A: Once you apply for a job, the hiring organization will select the best qualified applicants and contact potential interviewees directly.

In addition, the following automated status e-mails will be sent as appropriate:

  • Application confirmation: this email will be sent once your resume has been received
  • Under consideration: this email will be sent every two weeks as long as you remain under consideration
  • No longer under consideration: this email will be sent if you are not selected for an interview
  • Notification of listing cancellation: this email will be sent if LLNL decides not to fill the position to which you applied
  • Confirmation of withdrawal: this email will be sent if you withdraw your application by contacting the Help Desk

Q: How can I tell if a position I’ve applied for has been filled?

A: After reviewing resumes, the hiring organization will determine which candidates to interview and contact potential interviewees directly. Typically, only individuals who are interviewed will be notified of selection or non-selection for a position by the hiring organization.

You may check the status of your application by selecting the “Log in to your profile” button on the Careers Page. Once you log in, your personal Applicant Homepage will display. Select the "Accepted/Unaccepted Applications" link from the "My Career Tools" section of the Applicant Homepage.

Looking under the "Applications in Progress" section, you will see your status for the job(s) to which you have applied. If your status indicates "Resume Submitted" or "Under Consideration", it means that your resume is still under review. If the status indicates "No longer under consideration", it means that your resume has been reviewed and other, more qualified candidates have been selected to move forward in the hire process, or that the position has been filled.

Q: Why do some positions require U.S. citizenship?

A: As a Department of Energy National Laboratory, there are some positions that, due to the nature of the work, require that candidates be U.S. citizens. Some positions may also require that the candidate have, or be able to obtain, a security clearance. These conditions are indicated by the job’s “Posting Requirement”.

Q: I don't see a job I'm interested in right now; can I still send you my resume?

A: Yes, you can select the “Join our Talent Network” link on the Careers Page (on the right-hand side of the page). Once you have uploaded your resume and answered a few questions about the type of position for which you are looking, our recruiting team will be able to match you suitable roles.

Can I receive notifications when specific types of positions become available?

Yes, you can set up a job search agent to be automatically notified via email when new jobs matching your search criteria are listed.

Q: Can I log out and then log back in at another time to complete my application?

A: Yes, at any time during the application process, you can select the “Continue Later” button. You will then receive an email that includes a link to your application. To complete it, just click on the link.

Q: Can I change my application after I’ve submitted it?

A: Your application cannot be changed after you have submitted it. You may re-apply for the position, but should only do so if your information has changed significantly (e.g., you have received a degree or certificate since the time you initially applied).

Q: Are letters of reference or transcripts required at the time I submit my application?

A: Submitting letters of reference and/or transcripts is not required. However, if you would like to attach these documents to your application, you may do so on the “Optional Documentation” page. Just click on the “+ Select File” button.

Q: I’m having trouble with the application process; what should I do?

A: Contact our Careers Help Desk by email at or call 925-422-0045.
