For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Print/Digital Media Technician. You will provide technical support, workload coordination, and serve as the primary customer contact for a variety of digital duplicating, document bindery, and publication processing operations within a printing services organization in a multi-program national security laboratory. You will be part of a key team providing multi-media support to a diverse group of customers. This position is in the Technical Information Department.
This position will be filled at either the Print/Digital Media Technician (584.2) or Sr. Print/Digital Media Technician (584.3) level depending on your qualifications. Additional responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
Essential Duties
- Provide general technical support applying well-understood knowledge in the use and operation of printing/digital media equipment and related computer hardware/software.
- Understand and operate printing/digital media equipment to perform routine/advanced operational duties meeting customer deliverables.
- Provide general technical support in developing/preparing digital files to a variety of wide-format plotters.
- Operate traditional bindery equipment including folder, staplers, punches, drills, cutters and shrink-wrap.
- Provide general technical support of mounting and laminating of large format posters.
- May assist with repair and calibration of laboratory print equipment utilizing common well-understood troubleshooting methods.
- Scan a wide variety of materials, which includes, paper, negative or positive film, radiograph film and prints, both standard and large format.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 584.3 Level
- Provide advanced technical support independently applying appropriate standards and process knowledge in the use and operation of printing/digital media equipment and related computer hardware/software; prepare PDF files for print ready for a variety of output devices.
- Understand and operate, including repair and calibration, printing/digital media equipment to produce complex printed or scanned documents, mounted digital output, drawings, and graphics.
- Document project costs, order supplies, monitor vendor rates keeping costs in line and material rates accurate; provide production quality control and may analyze moderately complex data, prepare standard reports, conduct research on new equipment, and/or supplies.
- Associates Degree in digital media or related field, with significant experience in digital media or printing, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Intermediate computer and software skills in Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop for production and/or document management activities.
- Intermediate mechanical aptitude of printing equipment operation and maintenance supporting digital data, film handling, printing and scanning practices and techniques, in preparing digital media or graphics.
- Intermediate knowledge of publishing software practices, techniques, standards and procedures supporting digital media and printing activities used in digital document touchup, media processing and preservation.
- Intermediate knowledge of photographic equipment; and digital still and motion picture cameras.
- Experience processing multiple work activities and requests in a multi-faceted operation/customer service area.
- Proven ability to work both independently and within a demanding team environment meeting customer deliverables.
- Written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively interact with diverse customers.
In Addition at the 584.3 Level
- Extensive experience in digital media or printing, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude in print equipment technologies, operation, maintenance and calibration supporting digital data, film handling, printing and scanning practices and techniques, in preparing digital media or graphics.
- Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision/direct and technical oversight; may direct others as well as set work priorities.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.


Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
