We have an opening for an Engineering Scientific Coordinator. You will provide technical and administrative oversight and/or coordination of projects and procurements in the National Ignition Facility (NIF). This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.
Essential Duties
- Provide advanced technical and administrative oversight and/or coordination of multiple complex LLNL projects, procurements, and/or facility operations.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the use of personnel, materials, equipment, and time to ensure proper and efficient operation and adherence to security, environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, high-level personnel, vendors, and outside suppliers to determine most efficient, expeditious, and cost-effective methods to source and/or fabricate complex technical equipment, components, and/or assemblies.
- Manage the NIF rack and cable databases, which includes updating to reflect current status and configuration, assigning serial numbers for new hardware, and maintaining a consistent implementation for both areas.
- Interface with Integrated Computer Control System (ICCS) team and electrical designers to keep the Controls Information Retrieval System (JCIRS) configuration tool updated and fully functional.
- Plan and participate in “kitting” of hardware for efficient assembly and deployment; provide input and estimates for budgets, schedules, and workforce needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s (BS) degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
- Advanced skills, knowledge, and understanding of relevant technologies and processes, to coordinate complex electronic, mechanical, and/or electro-optic systems and solutions to problems.
- Experience with project planning, procurement, implementation and deployment; budgeting; and schedule/workforce planning.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary project environment with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, and schedule.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor others in specific on-the-job training, with advanced technical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills in specific technical areas.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of IPC standards for electronic assemblies and ASME Y14.5M.
- Advanced knowledge of LLNL purchasing, procurement, and organizational procedures.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level:  Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
