For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a high school student to engage in practical experience to further their educational goals.  You will work directly with scientist and technical staff members who will manage day-to-day assignments, review work, and be available for assistance.
This position is within the Design Physics Division within the WCI Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Students will work with scientists and technical staff members to participate in technical research support to projects in the areas of computational science, numerical methods, cyber defense, mathematics or other related fields.
- Under close supervision, will participate in related work in the assigned area.
- Gather and analyze data or information in support of scientific research.
- May give a presentation based on the work completed.
-Attend relevant seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must be currently admitted or enrolled in an accredited high school pursuing a high school diploma.
- Proven academic achievement.
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Experience programming in some of the following languages: C++, Java, HTML, PHP, Javascript and Python.
-Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a mathematical understanding of Excel.

Desired Qualifications
- GPA of 3.0 or above.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level:  None.


Note:   This is a Temporary Student Intern appointment. This assignment is for a full-time position during the summer academic break. Refer to the Scholar Program website at for additional student employment information. 

Salaries are based on student academic level.
