For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a computational biologist/chemist.  You will perform work in a challenging R&D environment in support of the Laboratory's programs using mechanistic modeling, pharmacology, molecular dynamics simulations, and computer science in the area of drug design. This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.
Essential Duties
- Develop software to simulate pharmacokinetic models and generate necessary adsorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion parameters.
- Create models of tissues to calculate permeability through tissue specific membranes.
- Develop new analytics to analyze results from complex systems biology experiments and simulations.
- Develop collaborations with external partners (Universities, Industry, other National Laboratories) to advance computational biology simulation efforts.
- Develop new research activities relevant to the needs of Laboratory programs and/or external funding agencies; write proposals, secure funding, and establish independent research projects.
- Prepare written analyses and verbal briefings and present research results at national and international conferences, as well as periodic progress reports.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Interact with senior project staff and management to influence programmatic decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- PhD in computer science, computational biology, computational physics or computational chemistry or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Significant experience in pharmacology or toxicology and molecular simulations.
- Publication record in the fields of molecular simulations and/or pharmacokinetics.
- Advanced computer skills including programming experience with perl, python or C++ in a UNIX environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Advanced written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deliver presentations, prepare written reports and to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff.
- Ability to lead independent work and respond quickly to diverse and shifting demands and priorities.
