For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We are looking for two Security Analysts to serve as technical advisors to the Security Organization (SO) Director and Deputy Directors and be responsible for risk assessments, systems, and process analyses; and provide oversight of performance testing activities.  These positions are in the National Security Engineering Division within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Serve as a primary technical advisor to the SO Director and Deputy Directors for security risks associated with a wide range of threats to LLNL assets, including theft of special nuclear material; chemical, biological and radiological sabotage; industrial sabotage of critical programs, facilities and personnel; and assault on Laboratory personnel.
- Advise and provide technical guidance associated with security, systems and process analysis to support regulatory compliance for programs/clients.
- Conceptualize, review, write, and provide input to various technical and regulatory documents such as vulnerability analyses (VAs), risk assessments (RAs), Site Security Plans (SSPs), Essential Element (EE) Security Plans, Performance Test Plans (PTPs), Performance Assurance Plans (PAPs), and the Threat Mitigation (TM) Program Description.
- Perform complex and in-depth technical analyses (e.g., VAs, RAs, Threat Identification, and Threat Assessments) with the use of analytical software (e.g., HOTSPOT, ALOHA, ConWep) to develop data and provide risk and consequences.
- Conduct probabilistic risk assessments for designated security assets and deviations from regulatory requirements in accordance with the Graded Security Protection Policy, Interagency Security Committee Design Basis Threat, industry standards, Code of Federal Regulations, and other relevant DOE Orders, and guidance documents.
- Review broad program requirements contained in DOE Guides and Standards, industry standards, and Code of Federal Regulations, extract key regulatory requirements and develop analytical approaches to determining security risks for LLNL security assets; assess LLNL performance
- Perform statistical analysis utilizing tools: to compile and analyze data identifying trends regarding security assurance activities; to transform data from relational databases, flat-file sources, and a variety of formats into data formats useable for analysis, trending, and reporting; to provide solutions to an assortment of issues/problems of varying complexity that necessitate the evaluation of identifiable factors; and to prepare estimates of the effectiveness of security systems in detecting and neutralizing adversary threats.
- Identify and oversee performance testing activities for essential elements for protection strategies; develop test scenarios, criteria, and objectives, aligned with associated analyses, designed to validate the performance of physical security systems and protective force in detecting, interdicting, and countering threats; critically review test results to ensure that tests validate assumptions and conclusions of associated analyses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor degree in a scientific discipline, applied science, or other technical related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, training and related experience in security disciplines.
- Significant experience conducting complex technical analysis of data using related software.
- Significant experience writing and reviewing technical and/or regulatory documents.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with and provide advice and guidance to a broad spectrum of personnel, including senior management (e.g., LLNL and DOE), while exercising a high degree of discretion, mature judgment, and tact in handling sensitive and/or classified information.
- Demonstrated aptitude for systematic statistical analysis and problem-solving skills to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to interpret new requirements, to assess impacts on near- and long-term organization objectives and goals, and to develop solutions, corrective actions, policies, and procedures for a variety of security disciplines.

Desired Qualifications
- Professional certification in a specialized security discipline.
- Demonstrated general knowledge of DOE Order 470.4B, Safeguards and Security Program, and DOE Order 473.3, Protection Program Operations.
- Demonstrated ability to represent the SO as a member of a DOE/NNSA working group providing input on technical issues for specific projects.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level:  Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
