We have an opening for a Data Protection and Systems Administrator. You will provide technical computer support and data protection administration for systems in a heterogeneous enterprise environment to solve a variety of moderately complex technical problems. This position is within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services Division in the Computing Directorate, supporting the Livermore Information Technology (LivIT) program.

This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Manage a private cloud backup environment that spans three NNSA sites to provide data protection services to enterprise collaboration tool suites, databases, applications, services, servers, and core infrastructure componentry.
- Management of Virtual Environments on premises (VMware & Azure Stack), and Cloud infrastructure including AWS and Azure.
- Perform moderately complex Linux installations, configurations, upgrades and ongoing maintenance activities on bare metal hardware and virtual environments.
- Diagnose and develop programmatic solutions (e.g. Shell scripting, Python, etc.) for backup administration and systems management tasks, including lifecycle, ongoing monitoring and maintenance, backups and other relevant software/utilities.
- Leverage orchestration/automation utilities (e.g. Ansible, Puppet/Chef infrastructure, etc.) for distributing and enforcing standard configurations, supporting patching, and pushing out new software and configuration changes.
- Implement, support, and maintain tools such as Icinga, and other performance/monitoring technologies to monitor and support systems and associated SLAs.
- Collaborate with management, customers, and team members to evaluate and recommend procurements of hardware and software, and provide guidance to end users for the design of their computing environments and technical areas.
- Satisfy security and systems administration policy requirements such as vulnerability remediation, and system build requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Manage multiple advanced parallel tasks and priorities of customers and stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met, while leveraging team members’ skills.
- Apply in-depth technical expertise to solve complex technical problems and develop solutions using judgment in determining methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
- Develop tools and procedures to facilitate complex automation efforts as well as cross-platform/environment monitoring solutions.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration with a concentration in Computer - Information Systems, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Broad, multi-year experience in architecting, designing, and operationally managing enterprise data protection services across sites leveraging enterprise backup solutions (Such as Commvault, Rubrik, or Legato Networker) in support of stringent SLA agreements that stipulate narrow RTO/RPO durations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and experience performing Linux system administration in a complex environment, including tasks such as installation, performance tuning, networking, security policy enforcement, troubleshooting, monitoring, backup/archiving and hardware replacement.
- Proficient, hands-on experience with technologies such as: SPLUNK, Tenable Security Scanner, Ansible, Puppet, Chef or equivalent, Icinga, RHEL 7/8 and/or RHN Satellite, PKI authentications, DevOps experience automating deployment of applications, VMWare or Azure Virtualization, AWS or Azure cloud services, BIND/DNS Scripting with CSH/BASH, or Python.
- Broad experience interacting with computer security personnel to provide input to computer security plans, ensuring computer security compliance, monitoring systems for general health, security incidents, and other events, and developing security configurations that meet cyber requirements.
- Comprehensive analytical skills necessary to analyze moderately complex systems and networks.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
- Ability to work on a 24x7 rotational schedule with the ability secure and maintain a Q level security clearance.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Advanced knowledge of and significant experience in the above technical languages, concepts, or constructs.
- Significant experience with security targets/configuration standards (CIS, STIGs or equivalent)
- Professional Certifications (e.g., VMware VCA or VCP-DCV, CompTIA A+, RedHat RHCSA, Ansible AWS).

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is an At Will appointment. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position. If final candidate is a Career Indefinite employee, Career Indefinite status may be maintained [should funding allow].
