We have openings for graduate students and Bachelors and Masters recent graduates (within one year).  You will have the opportunity to engage in practical research experience to further your educational goals. Opportunities include research projects in the areas of actinide and radiochemistry, isotopic analysis, radiation detection, and nuclear engineering.
Essential Duties
- Students will work with engineers, or scientists to engage in research projects in the disciplines of actinide and materials science, radiochemistry, isotopic analysis, radiation detection, and nuclear engineering in order to strengthen the pipeline for these scientific disciplines.
- Conduct research in assigned area under limited direction and supervision
- Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to laboratory staff in research and development projects.
- Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a graduate degree or a recent Bachelors or Masters graduate within one year.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in the fields of physics, chemistry, geology and geochemistry, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering or environmental sciences with experience applying basic and scientific principles to solve technical problems.                                                                                
- Demonstrated effective communication skills.
- Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas verbally and in writing.
- Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in operating PC and/or Macintosh computer to translate and report scientific data.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- GPA of 3.0 or above.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  None required.

However, if your assignment is longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must go through the Personal Identity Verification process.  This process includes completing an online background investigation form and receiving approval of the background check.  (This process does not apply to foreign nationals.)

Note:   This is a Temporary Student Intern appointment.  This assignment is for a full-time position during the summer academic break (June 15 – August 7, 2020). Salaries are based on academic standing and compensation rates established by LLNL’s Human Resources department. Travel costs to and from LLNL are provided.  Selected applicants will be required to provide transcripts and 1 letter of recommendation.
