We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the area of Nanofluidics working with a team that is studying molecular transport in nanomaterials. In this position you will focus on studying the effects of molecular confinement on the efficiency and selectivity of fluidic transport through sub-10-nm scale channels. You will conduct experiments aimed at determining the major physical mechanisms underlying the transport phenomena in these novel materials platforms, determine their suitability for applications, and conduct proof-of-principle tests. This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.
 
Essential Duties
- Conduct research in biophysics, bioengineering, surface science, or related fields.
- Conduct work with nanomaterials-based nanofluidic systems, artificial membrane channels, and synthetic membranes.
- Conduct measurements of ion selectivity and fluid permeability.
- Design and develop research projects focused on addressing defined problems.
- Present formal and informal overviews of progress in experimental work at weekly meetings.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Maintain and establish laboratory protocols, an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook including complete records of experiments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
- Recent PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with transport measurements in biological or synthetic nanopores.
- Experience with molecular transport kinetics measurements.
- Experience working on basic research projects and the ability to understand and analyze experimental results.
- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with characterization of membrane processes and electrokinetic phenomena.
- Experience with lipid and polymer vesicle preparation and characterization.
- Experience with preparation and characterization of carbon nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, and related materials.

Note:   This is a two year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
