We have an opening for an Industrial Hygienist (IH) in the Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) Directorate.  You will provide comprehensive industrial hygiene support as part of the LLNL industrial hygiene program within the Worker Safety & Health Functional Area as well as support to the ES&H field Teams.

This position will be filled at either the TSS.1 or TSS.2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide fundamental industrial hygiene support to resolve issues of limited complexity under the general direction of a more experienced IH professional.
- Provide technical support to evaluate and interpret the impact of industrial hygiene related rules and regulations promulgated by DOE and other agencies.
- Assist in revising and reviewing industrial hygiene policy and procedure documents.
- Participate in assessments of industrial hygiene program elements in collaboration with the assessment team.
- Participate in the development or revision of training courses in industrial hygiene and related subject matter areas.
- Participate in and support LLNL emergency response activities including drills, exercises, and off-normal events.
- Participate in providing technical support to other organizations within the ES&H Directorate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the TSS.2 Level
- Provide comprehensive industrial hygiene support to LLNL programs and operations in collaboration with senior staff members to resolve moderately complex to complex issues.
- Oversee projects as assigned by the Industrial Hygiene Group Leader/ES&H Team Leader.
- Develop, revise and review industrial hygiene policy and procedure documents.

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in industrial hygiene or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI Standards, as applicable to the research and development environment.
- Experience in industrial hygiene subject matter areas such as: asbestos, beryllium, confined space, noise, hazard communication, chemical hygiene, lead, silica, and ventilation.
- Ability to participate in assessments, emergency response activities and the development of industrial hygiene-related training courses.
- Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
- Ability to evaluate, interpret, and recommend actions/solutions for problems of limited complexity.
- Effective organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, tight and changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions while providing high-level customer service and good follow-through.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with a broad cross-section of people, including effective interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact, discretion, and mature judgment.

In Addition, at the TSS.2 Level
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI Standards as applicable to general industry, construction and research and development environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in industrial hygiene areas such as: asbestos, beryllium, confined space, noise, hazard communication, chemical hygiene, lead, silica, or ventilation.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present, explain and communicate moderately complex technical information to all levels of personnel and management.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.


Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
