We are looking for a Principal Deputy Associate Director (PDAD) to serve as a senior advisor to the Computing Associate Director (AD) on major operational issues across the directorate.  You will be responsible for establishing and overseeing practices, procedures, and developing implementation plans to comply with internal and external requirements as they relate to Computing. This position is in the Computing Directorate.
 
Essential Duties
- Represent the Computing AD as the principal alternate interface to the Director’s office.
- Serve as a member of the Computing senior management team, providing critical direction, expertise, advice, and perspective on a broad range of directorate initiatives.
- Ensure that Computing financial and workforce resources are effectively applied to support current and future scientific and operational programmatic needs.
- Develop, oversee and communicate directorate hiring, performance, ranking, salary management, personnel management, and reclassification philosophy and processes.
- Represent the Directorate on internal and external activities and projects.
- Establish and foster effective partnerships with Computing customers and stakeholders, and within the Computing organization.
- Assume responsibility for the general oversight and personal commitment to the goals of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Safeguards and Security Management, compliance with all ES&H regulations, good business practices, diversity and equal opportunity.
- Represent the Directorate on a wide variety of internal committees, participate on the Directorate Performance Review Board, and oversee the Directorate Communication and Web Teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a computer science, mathematics, or other related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Significant experience as a line or program manager working organizational lines  to accomplish demanding technical and programmatic goals.
- Substantial technical leadership and management abilities to effectively build and lead projects and teams in research and development, and operational environments.
- Expert verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills necessary to explain, present, direct, negotiate, influence, and coordinate technical or programmatic activities over a wide range of topic areas with senior managers and staff internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Highly advanced problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills, necessary to independently advise, counsel, recommend, and develop solutions on a wide variety of management level issues.
- High degree of integrity, maturity, discretion, and judgment interacting with and negotiating matters of significance to the organization.
- Significant experience managing operational budgets and projects, negotiating resource allocations and conflicting priorities, delivering results, meeting milestones, and working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team.
- Subject matter expert level analytical capabilities, specifically in strategic and technical analysis.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of LLNL policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with LLNL institutional processes and systems.
- Significant experience as a line or program manager working organizational lines within LLNL and across DOE sites to accomplish demanding technical and programmatic goals.
 

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
