We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in support of fundamental and applied research characterizing ceramics, glasses, polymers and other novel crystalline/amorphous oxide or non-oxide materials primarily using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) methods. This position is in the Subsurface Transport Group within the Atmospheric Earth and Energy Division.

Essential Duties
- Conduct fundamental and applied research characterizing ceramics, glasses, polymers and other novel crystalline/amorphous oxide or non-oxide materials primarily using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) methods.
- Independently plan, design, and execute experiments using EPR methods.
- Develop fabrication equipment and procedures as required to perform research.
- Document research; publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and present results within the DOE community and at conferences.
- Work independently, as well as in diverse multidisciplinary teams, to accomplish research goals.
- Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Recent PhD in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Ability to effectively perform independent research with a broad range of skills in experimental design, technique, and execution.
- Experience with EPR experimental methods, EPR spectral simulation and deconvolution methods.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated capabilities in delivering presentations and preparing written reports.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the specific area of polymer, inorganic, or organic materials.
- Knowledge of polymer synthesis, polymer physical chemistry, and polymer engineering.
- Experience with Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a 2 year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 3 years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
