We have an opening for a Web Application Developer to work on multi-disciplinary teams in an environment that encourages the support of the academic research community while focusing on problems of interest to LLNL and Department of Energy (DOE) programs.  You will contribute to data visualization in support of national security missions. This position is in the Global Security Computing Applications Division (GS-CAD) within the Computing Directorate, matrixed to the NSG Information Sharing System (NISS) project within Global Security’s N Program.

This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Develop and maintain full-stack web applications to support data input, management, discovery, and visualization; maintain interfaces to and from external software applications.
- Migrate existing application interfaces and features to new MEAN (MongoDB, Express, Angular, Node.js) platform.
- Deploy application updates across multiple Linux systems leveraging Docker and Kubernetes.
- Implement automated tests to ensure applications function as intended.
- Collaborate with a small, multi-disciplinary team and use independent judgement to rapidly respond to operational requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Research and recommend technology platforms and tools for new application development.
- Provide technical solutions to complex problems and lead projects spanning the complete application lifecycle.
- Ensure application compatibility and support complex application interactions in partnership with other software development teams.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Broad knowledge and experience implementing server-side web applications with Node.js.
- Proficient with client-side web-application languages including JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
- Broad experience with Angular.
- Broad experience with MongoDB.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment, as well as the ability to work effectively with minimal guidance.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Significant experience in a web application development role including knowledge of browser compatibility issues, JavaScript support differences, and test automation.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with multiple software frameworks and determining best practices.
- Advanced ability to work independently, lead a small team, and/or present technical material to mid-level internal management and customer/sponsor representatives.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with JavaScript testing frameworks such as Karma.
- Experience developing web application user-interfaces / user-experiences and best practices.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
