We have an opening for a Fabrication Technician/Senior Fabrication Technician on the Electronics Fabrication and Installation Team. You will work as part of a dynamic and diverse team to accomplish fabrication of electronic equipment and electronic components including wiring, soldering and installation of equipment and mechanical components. You will support a wide variety of Laboratory customers including the Director’s Office, Safeguards and Security, Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Laser Programs, Site 300, National Ignition Facility (NIF), Weapons Complex Integration (WCI), and the Lawrence Livermore Television Network (LLTN). This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the 532.1 or 532.2 level depending on your qualifications.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide basic fabrication support which may include powder coating application, while applying fundamental knowledge of layout, fabrication and installation of electronic and mechanical components.
- Utilize standard hand tools and manual machine tools to assemble and wire basic electronic components for integration into electronic racks and chassis.
- Perform basic quality and continuity tests of assembled equipment.
- Work from sketches, drawings, and verbal or written instructions under close supervision.
- Provide customer support using effective communication skills and effectively interface with other members of a small service-oriented group to fulfill the customer’s needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition, at the 532.2 Level
- Provide design support, update details and recommend modifications to moderately complex engineering designs.
- Log and report activities and tasks as required using work order system.
- Provide general fabrication and installation support to LLNL programs and projects to install, evaluate, and test various moderately complex systems.

Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, Mechanical or Manufacturing Technology or related technology, or the equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to work from verbal and written instructions, sketches, drawings, prints, and electronic schematics under close supervision.
- Ability to effectively use manual machine tools and standard hand tools.
- Basic technical skills in electronic rack and chassis fabrication, assembly, and testing standards.
- Ability to apply powder coat to a variety of materials.
- Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills and abilities.
In Addition, at the 532.2 Level
- Intermediate skills and understanding of moderately complex electronics technology including interpreting wiring diagrams and using specialized electronic fabrication tools.
- Experience working independently on moderately complex technical tasks under general supervision.
- Effective presentation communication skills.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience reviewing and updating manufacturing procedures and technical manuals.
- Formal education or certification related to operation of standard machine tools.

 

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
