We have multiple openings for Coordinator/Technical Coordinators. You will support the Supply Chain Organization within the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science (NIF & PS) Directorate.  You will apply technical knowledge of products and materials to work with NIF engineers and suppliers to purchase hardware, fabrications, computers, and system components.  NIF is a 24/7 operational facility and may occasionally require work overtime, shift, and/or weekends to accomplish goals; some work will occur in radiological environments. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Provide basic technical procurement support to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel through basic technical and administrative knowledge relating to procurement of parts/materials/equipment for scientific research activities.
- Provide technical procurement guidance using established guidelines and support to senior technicians, technical associates, and engineers/scientists on small projects.
- Stage, transport, and deliver parts around the LLNL site; i.e., for secondary operations and/or staging of assembly/installation efforts; deliver or pick-up parts from local-area suppliers.
- Maintain procurement delegation status as a Technical Release Representative (TRR) which authorizes the use of an LLNL-issued credit card.
- Interact with vendors, requestors, and other associates in the work unit, LLNL Procurement, NIF warehouse, LLNL Receiving, and onsite mechanical/electrical fabrication shops.
- Provide detailed award/delivery status to supervisor and customers/requesters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the 538.2 Level
- Intermediate level skills and understanding of conventional manufacturing and fabrication techniques, moderately complex electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware.
- Participate on project team to provide acquisition support to senior technicians, technical associates, and engineers/scientists on medium-large projects.

- Associates degree in mechanical, electronics, electro-optic, or manufacturing technology; or a technology-related certificate with relevant technician or fabrication-shop work experience; or the equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
- Basic understanding of the procurement process; knowledge of approval, bid, award, receive, reconciliation, and close-out.
- Basic understanding of inventory quality controls and their importance to the maintenance and operation of a research facility.
- Knowledge and experience associated with technical procurement of mechanical or electronic commercial off-the-shelf components.
- Ability to multitask and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to occasionally flex scheduled work hours for training on or off-site and ability to safely drive pick-up trucks, work overtime and/or shirt work hours as needed, lift up to 25 pounds, and secure loads.

In Addition at the 538.2 Level
- Intermediate understanding of ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard for the practical application of breaking down BOMs (Bill of Materials) for procurement at the component level.
- Intermediate understanding of the fabrication acquisition process; knowledge of approval, bid, award, inspection acceptance, receive, reconciliation, and close-out.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
