We have an opening for a RHWM Project Leader to oversee multiple waste management projects, including decontamination/decommissioning of radiological and/or chemically contaminated equipment or facilities, management of potentially-contaminated soils or building materials, and decommissioning of tanks or systems used to process radioactive or hazardous materials.  This position is in the Radioactive and Hazardous Waste Management (RHWM) Program.

Essential Duties
- Collaborate with and advise LLNL internal customers across the institution, define project scope and determine whether waste is routine or non-routine.
- Independently determine objectives of assignments, allocate resources and determine methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.
- Initiate, plan and oversee 10-20 simultaneous waste management projects, with budgets of ~100K each, from inception to close.  Develop cost estimates, project plans, status reports, critical path schedules and timetables; conduct design reviews and implement change control.  
- Achieve results while working in a matrix environment, even in instances with limited direct authority.  Develop relationships with LLNL service and regulatory organizations to effectively deliver on commitments.
- Contribute to the development of organizational goals and priorities, provide general oversight to multiple groups in the packaging and management of radioactive and/or hazardous waste.
- Develop work control documents for non-routine waste management jobs.  Oversee the safe and compliant performance of work.
- Independently analyze and evaluate applicable regulations, documents, and policies for operational compliance.
- Represents the organization as the technical resource on tasks and projects.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering or related scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education and significant related experience and  knowledge.
- Significant project management experience necessary to develop and manage scope, schedule, and budget for routine or moderately complex projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and broad experience in radioactive and hazardous waste management with advanced knowledge of complex regulatory and operational issues.  Experience working with multiple regulatory agencies/authorities to achieve long-term project objectives
- Significant experience managing budgets, developing cost and labor estimates, and allocating resources for multiple small to moderately-sized technical projects simultaneously.
- Experience providing customer service, particularly representing a technical product or service.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present technical information and provide advice to management, personnel and stakeholders.
- Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy and follow-through, and the proven ability to deliver on-time and on-budget results.
- Ability to work in highly regulated radiological and nuclear environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience decontaminating/decommissioning radiologically-contaminated facilities.
- Experience working at a DOE-managed facility.
- Experience and/or working knowledge of RHWM specific policies, procedures, and work control process.
- Knowledge of project management principles and software. 

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
