For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Organizational Development Consultant (OD) to provide a full range of services, such as organizational change and design, process improvement, coaching and mentoring, strategic planning, team effectiveness including diversity and inclusion, facilitation, training and conflict management. You will utilize your broad expertise in organizational development to interact with all levels of management and employees. This position is in the Strategic Human Resources Management Directorate Office.

This position will be filled at either the H04.3 or H04.4 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide internal organization development consulting services to management on topics such as organizational change and design, strategic planning, succession planning, leadership development, career development, performance management, team effectiveness, diversity and inclusion, and conflict resolution. Build and maintain strong client relationships and develop trust.
- Consult with project and work teams to assess and design programs to help the organization assess its current functioning and interventions to achieve greater effectiveness and communication.
- Recommend and implement interventions to support changing business needs, employee engagement and changing workforce needs. Provide conflict management consulting and mediation services.
- Identify and utilize best practices and tools while working closely with client organizations to provide customized workforce and organizational effectiveness consultation and solutions for managers, supervisors and individual contributors, including 360 surveys, and DiSC assessments, to meet the unique needs of the client.
- Provide confidential consultation and coaching for executive level management, mid-level management, supervisors, and individual contributors to further develop management and leadership skills. Manage and conduct highly sensitive, interventions, change management activities and strategic initiatives.
- Work with other internal OD consultants and Training & Development staff to design and conduct organization effectiveness needs analysis and implement development solutions for all levels of management across the institution.
- Collaborate with consultant team members to ensure coordinated organization development services and implementation of major institutional initiatives across the Laboratory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the H04.4 Level
- Manage and conduct highly sensitive and complex interventions with a significant span of influence with the client.
- Lead confidential consultation and coaching for executive level management to further develop management and leadership skills.
- Act as knowledge leader and advise senior management on organizational effectiveness including training and professional development.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Organization Behavior or related field, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
- Significant experience and advanced knowledge and understanding of organization development models, principles, concepts, practices, standards, processes, systems, project management and process improvement principles and its application. Demonstrated ability to formulate a questioning strategy that results in effective diagnosis of organizational opportunity.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to interact with a wide variety of technical and non-technical senior leaders, managers and employees. Strong facilitation and communication skills necessary to advise and influence internal and external stakeholders on a wide variety of issues to ensure mutual success.
-Practical experience analyzing opportunities and formulating recommendations that improve organization’s effectiveness. Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis, summarize findings, make recommendations and develop methods to assess effectiveness.
- Significant experience with leadership and management development, including needs analysis, design, instruction, use of alternative delivery mechanisms, implementation within intact work groups, individual coaching, marketing and evaluation.
- Experience with succession planning, workforce planning, and team development and consulting with managers on performance management issues.
- Demonstrated advanced organizational, decision making and analytical skills necessary to independently provide effective consultations and recommendations of appropriate actions needed to implement solutions. Significant experience in individual coaching and counseling to managers, supervisors and employees on a wide range of work-related issues, including conflict management and mediation.
- Experience functioning as a change agent for whole systems or major organization units, working across organizations vertically and horizontally, implementing programs by overcoming resistance and resulting in long-term change.
In Addition at the H04.4 Level
- Extensive experience designing, developing and implementing organizational and institutional OD solutions.
- Expert level knowledge and extensive experience functioning as a change agent for whole systems or major organization units, working across organizations vertically and horizontally, implementing programs by overcoming resistance and resulting in long-term change.
- Demonstrated competence and extensive experience in most aspects of leadership and management development.
- Experience in developing metrics to measure performance and process improvements.

Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Organization Development or related field or equivalent combination of education and extensive related experience.
- Coaching and/or other organization development related certifications.
- SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
