For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Industrial Safety Professional (ISP). You will provide industrial safety solutions to various LLNL programs as part of the Industrial Safety Program within the Worker Safety & Health Functional Area and the Environment Safety & Health (ES&H) field teams.
 
This position will be filled at either the TSS.1 or TSS.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
 
Essential Duties
- Provide fundamental industrial safety support to resolve issues of limited complexity under the general direction of a more experienced IS professional.
- Provide technical support to evaluate and interpret the impact of industrial safety related rules and regulations promulgated by DOE and other agencies.
- Assist in revising and reviewing industrial safety policy and procedure documents.
- Participate in assessments of industrial safety program elements in collaboration with the assessment team.  
- Participate in the development or revision of training courses in industrial safety and related subject matter areas.
- Participate in and support LLNL emergency response activities including drills, exercises, and off-normal events.
- Assist in providing technical support to other organizations within the ES&H Directorate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the TSS.2 Level
- Provide comprehensive industrial safety support to LLNL programs and operations in collaboration with senior staff members to resolve moderately complex to complex issues.
- Perform independent technical or operational tasks and projects and/or support research efforts.
- Develop, revise and review industrial safety policy and procedure documents.
 
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI Standards as applicable to general industry, research and development and/or construction environments.
- Experience in industrial safety areas such as construction, fall protection, lock out tag out, electrical safety, hoisting and rigging, forklifts, ladders and machine guarding.
- Ability to participate in safety assessments, emergency response activities and the development of industrial safety-related training courses.
- Ability to evaluate, interpret, and provide solutions for problems of limited complexity.
- Possess effective organizational skills to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, tight and changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions while providing high-level customer service and good follow-through.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with a broad cross-section of people.
- Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
In Addition at the TSS.2 Level
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI Standards as applicable to general industry, construction and research and development environments and comprehensive knowledge and experience in industrial safety areas such as construction, fall protection, lock out tag out, electrical safety, hoisting and rigging, forklifts, ladders and machine guarding.
- Experience performing technical analysis of data and applying effective analytical and problem-solving skills to complex problems.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present, explain and communicate moderately complex technical information to all levels of personnel and management.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

 

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
