For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Field Operations Supervisor. You will provide advanced technical and administrative oversight for a team of Treatment Facility Operators at Site 300 in Tracy, California. You will supervise technologists; direct the safe operation and maintenance of ground water treatment facilities; coordinate other field activities within ERD; and ensure regulatory compliance sampling and discharge permit requirements are met. This position is in the Environmental Restoration Department (ERD).

Essential Duties
- Supervise and direct the work of technologists assigned to the Site 300 Restoration Program for treatment facility operations, maintenance, construction, well drilling and sampling.
- Provide advanced technical guidance and support to others; oversee performance management and write annual performance evaluations; provide coaching/mentoring to technologists and identify necessary training to facilitate professional growth.
- Serve as facility point of contact for ERD facilities, including coordinating complex facility upgrades, prioritizing maintenance and repair schedules, and managing maintenance requests to Facilities & Infrastructure Department.
- Execute ERD treatment facility requirements for improving facility related reliability and cost efficiency.
- Identify and solve complex technical problems with treatment facilities and field operations; establish and modify guidelines, techniques and procedures to support specific projects, such as well drilling and fieldwork logistics.
- Follow RCRA hazardous waste handling regulations and ensure all ERD operations are conducted in a safe and compliant manner.
- Manage schedules and priorities for ERD technical operations. Adjust schedules and assignment to accommodate changes in the workload and workforce.
- Plan and organize maintenance of ERD support equipment, e.g. pumps, generators, test equipment, sampling devices; maintain an inventory of spare parts and materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s Degree in environmental technology or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience with significant experience in environmental restoration activities.
- Advanced technical leadership skills and significant experience leading and/or directing the technical work of others; developing schedules, determining technical support level requirements, managing and changing workloads and priorities; and performance and personnel management.
- Significant experience identifying and resolving complex technical problems using decision making; field experience, and judgment requiring a high level of technical competencies and project understanding.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with ES&H and OSHA safety requirements, including Regional Water Quality Control Board, Air Quality Control Board, and DOE requirements.
- Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively explain, present, and advise all levels of personnel, senior managers, the scientific community, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders; experience working effectively as a member of a team.
- Advanced personal computer skills using standard word processing, spreadsheet, database, and project management software.
- Ability to perform in adverse conditions consistent with a field environment. Physical strength, mobility, and endurance consistent with the wearing and use of protective clothing and equipment; ability to work on call and after hours.
- Current OSHA HAZWOPER training.

Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with Site 300 Environmental Restoration Program operations; LLNL and ERD policies and procedures.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.

Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).
