For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Web Designer/Administrator. You will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of external and internal web sites. You will work with multiple organizations or programmatic contacts to develop web content and graphics for existing, new, internal, and external websites. This position is in the Technical Information Department

This position will be filled at either the E02.1 or E02.2 level, depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Build and maintain new and existing web applications, components, and sites.
- Work collaboratively with diverse team on technical design, work estimation, and implementation of new projects.
- Work closely with customers to find balance between their needs and user needs in order to deliver the best product.
- Contribute ideas for continually improving user experience, code quality, and productivity.
- Prominent contributor in the evaluation, implementation and administration of newly created sites using content management system architecture.
- Independently develop website content that meets the needs of relevant stakeholders and administrative personnel and provide updates to existing customer sites.
- Provide first level assistance and problem determination in support of web sites.
- Participate in Institutional web site committees and work groups.
In Addition at the E02.2 Level
- Independently navigate server architecture and troubleshoot entire LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack.
- Develop and modify themes and plugins/modules that are applied to Control Management Systems, such as WordPress and Drupal.
- Design new content with customized photos and graphics that conform to institutional specifications and frameworks.

- Associate Degree in Web Design Administration or relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Intermediate experience with HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, and PHP, ability to create websites using Apache and MySQL Database.
- Proficiency with client-side scripting and Javascript frameworks, including jQuery.
- Knowledge of Bootstrap and Sass (or equivalent).
- Experience building sites using Control Management System, such as WordPress or Drupal.
- Experience with Git or other version control system.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate with internal and external customers.
In Addition at the E02.2 Level
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in web architecture and design, including performance, accessibility, and usability with user-centered focus development mindset.
- Experience leading projects and establishing production team commitments of cost, schedule, resources and quality of work.
- Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and CSS frameworks (Bootstrap) and CMS (WordPress and/or Drupal).

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
