For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Access Control Specialist to serve as a primary point-of-contact to coordinate and govern access to the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs).  This position supports the Special Security Officer (SSO) in the Field Intelligence Element (FIE) within the Global Security (GS) Principal Directorate.
 
Essential Duties
- Represent management in daily matters to gather, clarify and disseminate information and coordinate information and activities.
- Serve as the primary point-of-contact in a highly classified environment for the day-to-day SCI, organizational, and collateral badging policies and procedures.
- Manage the special badging process for access into the SCIFs. Serve as the primary point of contact for all visitors, internal and external, to LLNL that require SCI-level clearances.
- Coordinate internal and external high level complex visit activity within the SCIFs. Independently schedule and maintain facility calendars with conflicting and changing priorities, coordinate actions with infrastructure support teams, and collaborate with the Z Program Office.
- Coordinate inspection of items and notify personnel when inspection is complete.
- Actively promote security awareness and notify all visitors and residents of prohibited items policy.
- Arrange domestic travel and itineraries, including complex security arrangements
- Screen telephone calls independently answer inquiries, make appropriate referrals, follow through on requests; troubleshoot and resolve issues and problems, often of sensitive and unique nature.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
- Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact tactfully and effectively with a diverse workforce.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and discreet in handling sensitive and complex issues.
- Demonstrated advanced organizational skills and follow-through with the ability to prioritize and schedule a diverse, heavy workload with highly complex tasks in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities, constant interruptions and tight deadlines.
- Experience working effectively under minimal supervision in an environment with frequent  interruptions and changing deadlines, instructions and priorities.
- Demonstrated effective problem-solving and decision-making skills necessary to anticipate, identify and resolve highly complex problems, and to recommend and
  implement appropriate actions and solutions to more complex problems.
- Demonstrated advanced attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through.
- Demonstrated self-motivated, dependable and flexible with a strong work ethic to work
  effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Demonstrated proficient computer software skills, with experience using personal computers and associated software.
- Experience arranging domestic travel; and independently planning meetings and clearance transfers.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in a classified environment.
- Experience arranging domestic and foreign travel, and processing complex security
  clearances.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.  Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.  Please note that your current active Q or Top Secret clearance with DOE or another agency does not guarantee DOE SCI access approval; if you are denied access, you may be subject to reinvestigation of your existing Q or Top Secret clearance.
