For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Security Specialist to provide complex and dynamic security support to a variety of LLNL, DOE and customer missions. This position supports the Special Security Officer (SSO) in the Field Intelligence Element (FIE) within the Global Security (GS) Principal Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Resolve day-to-day security related issues/questions. Assist in the analysis, development, and implementation of systems and procedures that assure appropriate controls for the SCIF’s, including physical, personnel and information security and that work is conducted in compliance with LLNL, Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) directives, orders and requirements by interpreting and appling knowledge of Global Security policies, procedures, methods, and practices.
- Monitor and track clearances, certifications, visits, material moves and other activities to ensure adherence to Intelligence Community Directives, DOE Orders, FIE, and LLNL security requirements.
- Conduct security briefings to internal and external staff, visitors, and sponsors at all levels.
- Promote security education and awareness in accordance with IC Directives and Sensitive Compartmented Information policy.
- Conduct and participate in self-assessments and audits, assist in evaluating and development recommendation for improvement; collect and organize data for reporting.
- Support the Special Security Office on solutions and corrective actions
- Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate classified video teleconferences.
- Conduct security awareness education and provide training briefs in accordance with LLNL, DOE, DoD and IC policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
- AA degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of the IC requirements for the protection of IC sources and methods.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of DOE orders and regulations related to SCI facilities and SCI control systems.
- Experience interpreting and applying knowledge of policies, procedures, methods, and practices to resolve day-to-day security related issues/questions.
- Proven organizational skills to determine priorities and work assignments and effectively handle projects and oversee and direct activities at multiple locations.
- Experience coordinating projects and work activities with the ability to effectively work with diverse groups and multi-faceted processes.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present, direct, negotiate, influence and coordinate with all levels of management and personnel across the Laboratory, NNSA, within the DOE, IC, and other government agencies.
- Experience using secure telecommunications systems.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of DOE Orders governing a variety of safeguards and security disciplines and LLNL security policies and procedures.
- Experience as a Derivative Classifier or willingness to complete necessary training.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.  Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.  Please note that your current active Q or Top Secret clearance with DOE or another agency does not guarantee DOE SCI access approval; if you are denied access, you may be subject to reinvestigation of your existing Q or Top Secret clearance.
