For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Post College Appointee to work on analyzing geological and geophysical data.  You will be performing spatial statistics, writing python mapping interfaces between the geological framework, underground infrastructures, and ground shock wave physics codes. This position is in the Computational Geosciences group of the Atmospheric, Earth and Energy Division.

Essential Duties
- Conduct research in mapping geophysical and geological data into ground shock codes.
- Organize, analyze and reduce data from research and field experiments.
- Publish results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals and present technical results at scientific conferences.
- Work independentlyas well as part of a scientific team and interact with physicists, mathematicians, geologists, and seismologists to design and implement creative solutions to challenging research projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Recent BS/BA in earth, atmospheric and planetary science, or related field.
- Experience in the development and implementation of computational strategies in the area of specialization.
- Experience in the development of mapping and folding/unfolding algorithms.
- Experience with Hypercube and Polyominoes.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and presentation skills necessary to author technical and scientific reports, publications, invited papers, and to deliver scientific presentations, seminars, meetings and/or teaching lectures.
- Experience collaborating effectively with a team of scientists of diverse backgrounds and ability to travel to coordinate research with collaborators.
- Experience using advanced programming languages i.e., Python, andProlog.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Tiling, tessellation algorithms, folding and unfolding hypercubes.
- Knowledge of fractured media, alluvial deposition and interpretation of geophysical logs.
- Experience using statistical tools, methods, and algorithms, and basic knowledge of FORTRAN, C++ or C, and massively-Parallel computer architectures.

Note:   This is a one-year Post College Appointee with the possibility of extension to a maximum of two years.    Eligible candidates are recent graduates within two years of the month of the BS degree at the time of the employment offer.
