For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the area of cloud feedbacks with the goal of reducing the uncertainty in model predictions of future climate. You will perform and analyze simulations with the new DOE Energy Exascale Earth system model (E3SM). This position is in the Cloud Processes Research and Modeling group in the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division.

Essential Duties
- Perform and analyze E3SM simulations following the Cloud Feedback Model Intercomparison Project protocols.
- Conduct original research on the processes governing the response of clouds to climate change using E3SM simulations and similar simulations by other models.
- Publish research results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals and present technical results at scientific conferences.
- Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Recent PhD in atmospheric science or closely related field.
- Experience conducting research in atmospheric science or closely related field.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: cloud processes, radiative transfer, hydrologic cycle, climate feedbacks, or climate dynamics.
- Experience performing or analyzing climate model simulations such as those collected in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project.       
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to create reports, publications and proposals, and to provide technical information and advice to management and other stakeholders.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work in a diverse, multidisciplinary research team.
- Ability to travel as required to coordinate research with collaborators.

Note:   This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
