For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Electrical Engineering Design Drafter. You will provide general Computer Aided Design (CAD) support to senior designers, engineers/scientists utilizing your knowledge of CAD and Product Lifecycle management (PLM) tools. You will develop design and manufacturing documentation for the Engineering Design Group in support of the National Ignition Facility and Photon Sciences (NIF&PS) Directorate.  This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
-  Provide general CAD/PLM design support to engineering, scientific and technical staff utilizing intermediate knowledge of CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Mentor Graphics, GerbTool, Enterprise Lifecycle Management (ELM) tools where design parameters and specifications have been established.
-  Use task management software (JIRA) to log and track effort.
-  Create moderately complex drawings of components, assemblies, and systems.  
-  Process drawings and other technical information using database management software (ELM); provide graphics and related technical material in support of design reviews, procedures and other documentation; check completed drawings and other documentation for adherence to LLNL drafting standards and specifications.
-  Maintain systems documentation and experimental records.
-  Perform basic calculations to support technical work using standard engineering formulas.
-  Contribute to preliminary design concepts for hardware, componentry and systems including making limited independent judgment and decisions under moderate technical authority.
-  Provide feedback to help estimate scheduling and costs to determine effective methods in design time to meet project deliverables.
-  Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
-  Associate Degree in Electro-Mechanical Drafting or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
-  Intermediate knowledge in electrical schematics, engineering hardware design, fabrication, assembly techniques, materials, and manufacturing methods.
-  Demonstrated working knowledge in PLM tools.
-  Intermediate knowledge of the standards, procedures, and techniques related to general EE design, including knowledge of ASME Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Standard.
-  Working understanding of electrical and mechanical design principles: Electronic Engineering Design Safety Standards (DSS).
-  Ability to read and follow engineering notes, sketches, drawings specifications and procedures.
-  Effective written and verbal communication, presentation and feedback skills
 

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
