For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Institutionally Managed Facilities (IMF) Safety and Documentation Manager. You will develop and maintain all authorization basis documents for all 132 IMF Office Space, Light Science and Industry Facilities, and Low Hazard Facilities. You will develop access control, and inventory reductions to the extent possible to reduce the risk to the laboratory regarding these facilities. Many of the buildings have hazardous and radioactive materials that must be removed for disposal, assessed for potential risks, and prioritized to ensure cost effective management of these facilities. This position is in Deployed Facilities & Infrastructure Department.
 
Essential Duties
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers and high-level technical personnel to provide highly advanced technical and/or technical management support in the area of Risk Reduction, Dismantlng & Demolition and Characterization.
- Apply highly advanced technical knowledge to Interpret  highly complex State, Federal and local Regulatory compliance, DOE Orders and requirements, and Laboratory Policies to document development and management of facilities.
- Develop strategies to maintain, repair, reduce hazards and inventory, and control access to facilities.
- Plan budget development, prioritization, and cost saving measures in the maintenance of facilities.
- Develop risk assessments, shutdown and surveillance plans, contracts, work control, and formal status reporting.
- Ensure milestones are met for facility projects and ensure that data development tools meet the needs of the Laboratory.
- Validate highly complex data to ensure quality of information on regulatory and DOE reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in technical management, risk management or a related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Extensive experience in management of hazardous or radioactive materials and facility infrastructure and highly advanced knowledge in hazardous materials regulations and experience interpreting analytical data.
- Highly advanced knowledge of all health and safety aspects of facility management activities.
- Extensive project management skills and expertise.
- Highly advanced written, verbal, feedback and presentation communication skills in multiple technical areas and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in a multi-discipline environment.
- Extensive experience collaborating effectively in a scientific community, and extensive technical and administrative lead authority and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively in stressful conditions while maintaining focus.
- Advanced computer skills including Word-processing and database manipulations skills.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of hazardous and radioactive waste regulations.
- Advanced knowledge in waste acceptance criteria for waste disposal facilities.
- Advanced knowledge of facility maintenance activities.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
