For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Bunker Lead to support the Weapon Technologies and Engineering Program (WTE) at the Site 300 Firing Bunker 801, the Contained Firing Facility (CFF). You will be responsible for oversight, technical direction, and execution of experiments at the CFF, ensuring necessary work instructions and analyses are completed, maintained, and used as required to conduct safe, secure, effective, and efficient operations of firing activities. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate, supporting the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the 337.1 or 339.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide technical oversight and leadership to successfully field experiments at the S300 bunkers and other locations.
- Organize and execute logistical aspects of day-to-day operations and specific experiments.
- Notify and report to the Bunker Operations Manager/or Facility Manager and other laboratory managers, events that have environmental, safety, health, security or quality significance, and assist in investigation and corrective actions for such events.
- Implement and improve task-specific facility training and development programs.
- Act as Responsible Individual (RI) or Alternate RI for work control documents e.g., Hazard Control Plans and/or Work Permits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 339.2 Level
- Respond and manage actions from internal and external assessments.
- Plan and direct personnel resources for multiple projects/jobs.
- Act as the Bunker Operations Manager and/or Facility Manager in their absence.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience with project planning, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Experience with explosives operations and hazards or operations with equivalent hazards.
- Demonstrated ability in assembling and directing teams to complete specific projects or resolve specific problems in a safe and secure manner.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, sound judgment, and ability to approach and resolve difficult issues using creative problem-solving skills and decision-making techniques.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within constraints.
- Ability to complete and maintain qualifications as a Bunker Supervisor, Rad Worker (II), and Beryllium Worker.
In Addition at the 339.2 Level
- Significant experience with project planning, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Advanced leadership and team-building skills, sound judgment, and ability to approach and resolve difficult issues using creative problem-solving skills and decision-making techniques.
- Significant experience in identifying and analyzing hazards and developing and implementing effective controls for unique experimental activities.

Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Primary Nuclear Design experimental program at multiple locations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LLNL policies and procedures and ES&H requirements, and DOE regulations, national codes and standards, and administrative relationships or demonstrated ability to work in highly regulated environment.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

 

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
