For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have multiple openings for an Engineering/ Scientific Coordinator/ Senior Engineering Associate. You will be responsible to provide advanced technical and administrative oversight for the design, acquisition, fabrication, and testing of complex electromechanical components for various projects. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED), within the Engineering Directorate supporting the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

These positions will be filled at either the 338.1 or 339.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide advanced technical oversight and/or coordination of electromechanical design for multiple complex LLNL projects, procurements, and R&D activities.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the efficient use of personnel, materials, and equipment.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, high-level personnel, vendors, and outside suppliers.
- Analyze and determine most efficient, expeditious, and cost-effective methods to source and/or fabricate complex technical equipment, components, and assemblies.
- Provide input and estimates for budgets, schedules, and workforce needs.
- Present information to engineering/scientific teams, vendors, and program management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition, at the 339.2 Level
- Develop and refine technical systems, operations, and experimental R&D strategies.
- Lead design, data analysis, documentation, and modification of highly complex electromechanical systems.
- Author, review, and approve reports, operation/maintenance manuals, and other engineering related documents. Routinely present this material to management and peers. Plan, organize, and work with budget and lead multiple projects of significant scope.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
- Advanced skills, knowledge, and understanding of relevant technologies and processes, to coordinate complex electromechanical systems, and solutions to problems.
- Significant experience with technical project planning, budgeting, and workforce planning.
- Familiarity with machining operation and capabilities for complex electromechanical parts ranging from mm to multi-meter size scales at a variety of required tolerances.
- Ability to organize and manage the procurement and manufacture of materials and parts for multiple projects while maintaining sight of changing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience working with a variety of materials under environmental conditions (e.g.  vacuum, high voltage/ high power, RF).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD design tools (e.g. Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Pro-E).
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience mentoring others with on-the-job training, with advanced technical skills specific to assignment.
In Addition, at the 339.2 Level
- Extensive experience mentoring others in specific on-the-job training, with advanced technical skills specific to assignment, may also include administrative and technical leadership skills.
- Highly advanced skills and understanding of relevant technologies and processes, including the ability in mechanical and electronics technology theory to design complex systems and solutions to highly complex problems.
- Possess highly advanced written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills in multiple technical areas.

Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with electrical and mechanical analysis tools.
- Advanced knowledge of LLNL purchasing, procurement, and organizational procedures.

 

 

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
