For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in geomechanics and multiphase flow for subsurface engineering applications. You will utilize and potentially improve numerical methods to model coupled processes on high-performance computing platforms. This position is in the Atmospheric, Earth and Energy Division.


Essential Duties
- Conduct original and independent research on geomechanics and multiphase flow in porous and fractured media utilizing high performance computing software.
- Analyze and interpret data from geophysical monitoring and laboratory experiments and integrate this data with modeling studies.
- Publish programmatic reports and peer-review publications summarizing research findings.
- Present results at program meetings and scientific conferences.
- Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Recent PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of geomechanics and/or multiphase flow.
- Knowledge of application of numerical methods, including discretization/meshing and solution techniques.
- Experience with post-processing of modeling, laboratory, and/or field data.
- Experience producing reports, publications, and proposals.
- Demonstrated research creativity.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, as evidenced by published results and presentations.

Desired Qualifications
- Expertise in geomechanics and/or multiphase flow.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  None required.

 

Note:   This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
