For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an HVAC System Maintenance / Construction Engineering Coordinator. You will provide advanced technical and administrative oversight of preventive maintenance, corrective repair, and replacement projects. You will be responsible for coordinating, and scheduling of material, equipment, and manpower for required work orders and projects supporting the repair, replacement, and maintenance of equipment, and infrastructure systems.  This position is in the Facilities Management & Systems Planning Division (FMSPD) of the Deployed Facilities & Infrastructure Department and may require working at Site 300 in Tracy, California.

This position will be filled at either the 369.1 or 369.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide advanced technical and administrative oversight in the development of repair procedures for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems. 
- Review and analyze moderately complex data and work history on specific equipment and make recommendations for the type of maintenance and frequency as well as optimum replacement year. Define Condition Assessment criteria.
- Review technical specifications for and approve the procurement of new equipment. Create and maintain preventative maintenance task codes and ensure these task codes are tailored to the needs of each unique piece of equipment.
- Collaborate with System Engineers to develop and maintain complex technical standards. Provide clients, engineers, and technicians with system and component troubleshooting, training, and design review.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for various maintenance, construction, and repair subcontracts and develop work scope for subcontracted maintenance and repairs.  Act as Responsible Individual (RI) for subcontracted work and provide procurement team with bids from multiple qualified contractors.
- Supervise contractor’s work to ensure safety, quality, and completion; lead safety meetings/pre-start briefs, and mitigate any safety concerns.
- Provide technical direction in the development and implementation of equipment commissioning plans. Responsible for ensuring work being performed by outside Contractors meets the requirements of the issued scope of work the contract.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 369.2 Level
- Serve as the SME for HVAC&R systems and provide highly advanced technical and administrative direction and oversight of preventive maintenance, corrective repair, and replacement projects.
- Manage construction/maintenance projects and budgets; generate reports and provide recommendations to senior management for HVAC modernization.
- Responsible for major contract management and collaborate with clients and engineers to define equipment repair, replacement, and new project approaches.

- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Technology or Construction Management with an emphasis on HVAC or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant experience maintaining, repairing, and/or replacing HVAC systems and components such as water and air-cooled chillers, air handlers, refrigeration compressors, chilled and hot water systems, boilers, pumps, automatic valves, VFDs, direct digital controls, and pneumatic controls.
- Experience managing subcontractor work activities.Advanced knowledge of and OSHA procedures that pertain to contractors in the areas of mechanical and electrical LOTO, noise, confined space, fall protection, pressure safety requirements, and rigging and hoisting.
- Advanced knowledge of scheduling, job estimating, and planning of tasks that could affect mission activities.Significant experience effectively managing multiple activities simultaneously.
- Significant experience effectively leading meetings, including coordinating logistics, defining objectives and ensuring objectives are met.
- Experience utilizing computers and associated software to manage Work Orders, Badge Requests, Purchase Orders, Integrated Work Safety Sheets.
- Significant experience interpreting complex maintenance and construction technical performance/building codes/regulatory compliance requirements and planning and directing maintenance/construction activities
- Advanced customer service and interpersonal skills including experience using tact and diplomacy to interact effectively with all levels of scientific, technical, and administrative personnel.
In Addition at the 369.2 Level
- Extensive experience with theory, design, construction, installation, and maintenance of HVAC systems and components. Experience maintaining multiple types and manufacturers of chillers or boilers.
- Advanced knowledge of the internal components of screw, scroll, and centrifugal chillers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of report generation such as equipment inventories, labor costs and material cost.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience programming DDC systems.
- Experience with data center HVAC equipment.
- Experience performing teardown and rebuilding of chillers or boilers.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
