For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Supply and Distribution Group Leader. You will provide leadership, direction and supervision to ensure optimal performance of various logistics and service functions involving mail services, furniture, shop stock, receiving, distribution, shipping, records storage center, and food service.  These services include a workforce that is deployed at Site 200, Site 300, matrixed to NIF, and handles the mail, shipping, and receiving function for Sandia National Laboratory, California.  This position is in the Asset Management Department.

Essential Duties
- Serve as one of three Group Leaders in the Supply and Distribution division to provide leadership, supervision and oversight for staff members comprised primarily of material handlers, coordinators, supply specialists, service administrators, and records professionals.  Oversee personnel management, training, and career growth of team members.
- Serve as key member of the division responsible for developing monthly performance metrics, interfacing and fostering partnerships with program customers, Sandia CA, NNSA Livermore Field Office and a wide variety of safety professionals and auditors.
- Create and improve business strategies and performance and ensure procedural compliance with DOE/State/Federal and LLNL policies and procedures.
- Coordinate, oversee and manage a diverse set of site-wide logistics functions such as mail, furniture, shop stock, receiving, distribution, and shipping, records storage, and food service. 
- Solve complex and unusual problems; formulate, plan, document, and oversee the development and implementation of new processes and procedures.
- Promote and engage in daily activities that encourage and monitor a safe and secure work environment. 
- Seek continuous improvement opportunities to reduce cycle time, improve customer service while seeking innovative IT and automation solutions. Monitor service levels and recommend changes to achieve objectives.
- Interpret and apply concepts and techniques; analyze data and prepare final recommendations for organizational senior management.  Serve on various department, directorate, laboratory, and NNSA committees, and serve as a senior level technical resource.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
-Significant experience writing and adhering to policies and procedures, regulations and databases, including interpreting and applying DOT and other external safety regulations and laws. Demonstrated expertise in the logistics industry with extensive knowledge of multi-disciplinary regulatory and contractual requirements and compliance issues.
- Demonstrated expertise working and supervising in a highly regulated environment with an emphasis on safety controls. Expert knowledge of and experience managing hazardous and classified material.
- Supervisory and performance management experience and demonstrated leadership and team building skills to include the ability to manage budgets, develop and meet strategic department goals, and lead staff development initiatives.
- Experience in project management and determining requirements of a large, diverse customer base and establishing and managing operational components.
- Demonstrated experience exercising a high degree of discretion, mature judgement, and tact in handling issues of a sensitive nature.
- Advanced organizational, problem solving, decision-making, analytical and leadership skills necessary to independently advise, recommend and approve appropriate actions and implement solutions.
- Customer service skills that demonstrate responsiveness to customer needs and requests and strong demonstrated experience working with customers to meet common goals.
- Advanced communication skills both written and verbal necessary to effectively explain, present, advise, and influence managers, administrators and employees on a variety of simple and complex issues.

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation Hazardous Material policies.
- Proficiency in receiving systems and databases.
- Knowledge of institutional applications, such as the Laboratory Integrated Network for Contracts and Supply (LINCS) and Universal Content Management (UCM).

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
