For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to provide advanced cyber and technical intelligence support. You will be responsible for multiple classified networks and standalone systems, security systems, user accounts and access, and implementation of security controls.  This position is in the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Division within the Computation Directorate, matrixed to the Weapons Complex Integration (WCI) Computer Support Unit (CSU).

The position will be filled at the 393.1 or 393.2 level depending your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Author comprehensive Federal Information System Management Act (FISMA) document packages, to include preparation of information system documentation based on complex requirements, while interacting with several government agencies.
- Collaborate with management and users on security issues/concerns in their environments (hardware, application software, or operating system) and provide advanced technical support and original solutions to the user community.
- Evaluate cyber security impacts of operating systems/network protocols, applications, and hardware.
- Work with customers and management to provide direction in the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of equipment into a computing environment with appropriate set up of cyber security protocols for a defined set of systems and/or LANs
- Review computer audit logs and work with IT Support staff to investigate anomalies.
- Inspect and document network infrastructure to verify compliance.
- Conduct periodic decommission and tear-down of computer systems and networks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 393.2 Level
- Collaborate with customers in the design of their computing environment and security management processes and provide highly advanced technical assistance to the user community.
- Manage cyber-security related projects with a broad scope over multiple environments and develop and/or recommend cyber support processes including researching, evaluating and recommending cyber tools.
- Diagnose and resolve complex system and network-related problems; evaluate technologies for infrastructure deployments and upgrades.

- Bachelor’s degree in a computer or engineering related field or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- Extensive experience in information security, as an Information Systems Security Officer, or an equivalent cyber role with demonstrated knowledge and experience in authoring and testing system security plans.
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of and experience with cyber-related tools for auditing, compliance verification, vulnerability testing, and continuous system monitoring.
- Ability to set priorities and solve complex problems in a fast-paced, customer-focused team environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and document, present and explain technical information.
- Advanced technical knowledge of computer systems, applications, and networking/distributed computing concepts.
- Experience with computer hardware for troubleshooting and inspections, including the ability to climb ladders and move ceiling tiles to conduct network and infrastructure inspections.
In Addition at the 393.2 Level
- Experience leading technical projects with a broad scope or multiple teams, demonstrated project management skills and the ability to assume responsibility with minimal instructions and supervision.
- Highly advanced knowledge of and substantial experience with Apple, Windows, or Linux hardware and operating systems.
- Highly advanced knowledge and experience with networking hardware and protocols, high-performance computing, and distributed computing concepts.

Desired Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise support tools for management, patching, or software distribution (e.g., Active Directory, LANDesk, Wise application packaging).
- Knowledge of LLNL Cyber security policies and experience implementing cyber security controls and experience with national cyber security directive such as DCID 6/3.
- Experience working in an SCI environment and information security certifications such as CISSP, SANS/GIAC, SCNP, and Crypto Device certification.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
