For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Transuranic (TRU) Waste Project Coordinator to work under minimal supervision in support of the TRU Waste operations.  You will monitor compliance with DOE requirements associated with TRU waste packaging, characterization, storage, and disposal at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). This position is in the Radioactive and Hazardous Waste Management Program(RHWM).

Essential Duties
- Provide advanced coordination support through specialized technical and administrative knowledge.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of procedures, reports, presentations, and project plans and assist in the preparation of project related documents (e.g., Project Management Plans, Project Execution Plans, Gantt charts).
- Interpret State and Federal regulations (e.g., Department of Transportation (DOT), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)) as they apply to the characterization of hazardous and radioactive wastes.
- Compile documentation to satisfy the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Enhanced Acceptable Knowledge (AK) requirements for each container of TRU waste including maintaining the Interface Waste Management Documents List (IWMDL) and provide supervisor and customers/requestors with routine status updates and reports.
- Review and maintain procedures and training associated with TRU waste characterization, packaging, and disposal activities.
- Collaborate with TRU waste generators, field technicians, and environmental analysts to provide guidance and solutions for the characterization, packaging, and management of TRU wastes.
- Track the status of all TRU waste at LLNL and respond to routine and non-routine data calls associated with the TRU waste inventory including DOE, NWP, and/or LLNL management requests for formal and informal reports/information.
- Track the status of nonconformance reports (NCR), work with the responsible person to resolve the NCR and provide reports on the status of all NCRs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in environmental or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of DOE requirements as they apply to TRU waste characterization, packaging, and disposal.
- Experience interfacing with multiple levels of management.
- Experience gathering chemical and radiological data to support waste characterization activities and developing reports for management.
- Experience reporting on project status, and managing project changes, in support of multidisciplinary technical projects.  
- Advanced organization skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through.
- Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to effectively communicate with technicians, LLNL Managers, Contractors, LFO, CBFO, and HQ personnel.
- Ability to successfully complete all Federal, State, LLNL and DOT training requirements.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
