For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Weapons Infrastructure Project Manager to plan, manage, and execute complex integrated equipment and facility recapitalization projects in support of the nuclear weapon program in high explosives, warhead test and evaluation, physics performance evaluation, and weapons Science, Technology, and Engineering (ST&E).  This position is in the Nuclear and Hazardous Operations Program.

This position will be filled at either the TSS.3 or TSS.4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Develop requirements, designs, project scope, costs, schedules, and risk plans in order to execute projects focused on programmatic equipment, such as ultraprecision machine tools or inspection coordinate measuring machines, off-the-shelf equipment such as thermal ovens or environmental chambers for high explosives and/or unique custom program equipment that requires collaborating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Develop and implement rigorous project management methods and tools to ensure successful execution of infrastructure projects.
- Review, compose, and develop technical specifications and drawings.
- Prepare supporting health and safety documentation that is aligned with the Integrated Safety Management (ISM) requirements and participate in design and Management Prestart Reviews.
- Collaborate with mission support organizations in operations and business (O&B), environmental safety and health (ES&H), and science, technology, and engineering (ST&E) to ensure successful project execution.
- Lead a team of specialists consisting of supply chain management (procurement), facility operations, ES&H , the Weapons Program, and technical SME’s.
- Participate as an Integrated Project Team (IPT) member in design, procurement, and operational reviews.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the TSS.4 Level
- Commission and lead formal and informal design reviews per IPT process.
- Manage the integration of both facility and equipment recapitalization activities.
- Direct a multidisciplinary team toward the successful completion of project and organizational goals and serve as primary technical contact on various tasks and projects.

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of hardware design, fabrication, and installation.
-Significant experience effectively managing projects that include organizing and conducting rigorous design and project reviews.
- Significant experience devising solutions for complex technical requirements.
- Significant experience managing schedules and budgets of multiple projects concurrently and reprioritizing and changing programmatic direction depending on emergent requests.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively interact, collaborate in a team environment, and present technical information and provide advice to management, the Weapons Program, resource management, and federal management staff.
- Significant experience and advanced technical knowledge in order to oversee a multidisciplinary team and ensure the completion of multiple projects on budget and on schedule.
In Addition at the TSS.4 Level
-Extensive experience working in a nuclear weapons program and overseeing the day-to-day operations in high hazard facilities.
-Extensive experience formulating acquisition policies and procedures.
-Subject matter expert knowledge of operational policies and procedures and safety basis documentation in high hazard and explosives facilities.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
