For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have multiple openings for Associate Division Leaders (ADL – DTED line management responsibilities) / Associate Program Directors (APD – WTE and/or Strategic Partnership Program (SPP) program element management). APDs are responsible for managing and integrating the work of multidisciplinary teams to successfully complete programmatic deliverables with funding sources from NNSA Directed Stockpile Work (DSW) and/or DoD SPP. ADLs provide line-management for the groups and direct supervision of the group leaders within a division or program element of DTED. You will work directly with project teams and interact with all levels of management internal and external to the Laboratory. These positions are in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) and the Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program of the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Provide management oversight, technical direction and leadership for WTE and/or SPP.
- Develop and establish clear strategies and long-range goals to achieve division and programmatic goals.
- Manage the program workforce requirements for recruitment and retention of highly qualified personnel, develop staffing plans, mentor personnel and foster an agile, motivated, and well-trained workforce.
- Manage activities for DTED through Technical Staff Leaders and/or Managers, ensuring technical guidance and review, professional growth and leadership development, evaluations, and salary management for DTED/WTE.
- Exert influence in the development and implementation of institutional objectives, budget preparation, and strategic planning.
- Manage NNSA (DSW) and/or SPP program budgets.
- Provide leadership and direction to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering or related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Expertise in nuclear weapon engineering and testing, and familiarity with nuclear weapon physics and design.
- Extensive experience managing and leading a significant technical portfolio of large-scale projects, supporting large-scale projects led by others, and a demonstrated ability to deliver results.
- Extensive experience directing Technical Leaders, delegating and effectively leading, motivating, and building complex interdisciplinary teams to achieve programmatic and institutional goals.
- Extensive knowledge of managerial and financial practices, and the ability to effectively balance complex technical and budgetary priorities to achieve desired results.
- Advanced problem solving, analytical, technical, organizational, and management skills necessary to independently advise, recommend, and approve appropriate actions and implement solutions.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, necessary to effectively explain, present, negotiate on matters of significance to the organization, advise, and influence all levels of management.
- Extensive experience sustaining productive relationships with other divisions, directorates, laboratories, NNSA, National Security Enterprise production agencies, other institutions across the DOE and DOD enterprise, and external advisors and reviewers.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
