Science and Technology on a Mission!

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member to evaluate building and utility management, maintenance, and recapitalization performance data, perform real property asset management modeling, develop simulation tools, and evaluate facilities and infrastructure gaps to support LSI strategic initiatives. This position is in the Laboratory Strategic Infrastructure (LSI) organization.

Essential Duties
- Evaluate asset lifecycle using regression and system dynamic numerical methods to balance the facilities and infrastructure portfolio and mission risk and analyze the state of real property at LLNL.
- Evaluate, technical and operational policies necessary for consistent and effective building and utility management and reporting of real property assets information.
- Develop forward simulation models incorporating stochastic algorithm methods.
- Develop coupled set of differential equations to describe complex enterprise systems.
- Implement concepts and modeling techniques to develop and apply time-dependent models to represent LLNL’s portfolio of buildings and utilities to identify system needs.
- Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of infrastructure and facility management professionals internally and externally to the Laboratory.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals, and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Formulate projection metrics and goals to balance the facilities and infrastructure portfolio and mission risk and analyze the state of real property at LLNL.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
- Recent PhD in a related engineering, facility management, or environmental science discipline.
- Experience in verification and validation of computational modeling methods.
- Experience with analytical and mathematical simulation tools, including Mathmatica.
- Knowledge of real property, facility or infrastructure management, simulations and modeling.
- Experience developing innovative solutions to technical problems that requires in-depth analysis and frequent use of ingenuity and creativity.
- Experience in high-quality research in a relevant field, demonstrating both detailed understanding and a broad perspective.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information with peers, management, customers, and sponsors.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience in analysis and design of complex dynamic systems.
- Experience with analysis tools such as building and utility sustainment modeling, life-cycle models, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), condition assessment, and financial reporting.
- Balance of theoretical and experimental work in a field of science.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
