For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have multiple openings for Computer Vision Specialists. You will participate in programmatic efforts to develop and apply advanced algorithms that relate to imagery and video in support of Laboratory mission objectives. These positions are in the Computational Engineering Division (CED), within the Engineering Directorate.

These positions will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Develop and implement computer vision algorithms that apply to imagery and video.
- Integrate algorithms within larger programmatic systems that require these capabilities.
- Perform experimental analysis efforts using state-of-the art computer vision algorithms.
- Contribute to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Prepare and present technical reports for internal and external customers.
- Lead/mentor student fellows, summer student researchers, and post docs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Conduct independent research and develop new imagery and video analysis methods to meet current and future data challenges.
- Provide technical leadership for specific projects or in an area of expertise and lead the development of advanced algorithms in support of R&D efforts.
- Publish and present research results in peer-reviewed publications and at scientific conferences and collaborate with industrial and/or academic partners on identified research efforts.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in computer vision including experience in algorithm development.
- Experience with one or more higher-level programming languages such as C/C++, Java/Scala, or Python.
- Experience with one or more scientific analysis and prototyping environments such as MATLAB or the SciPy Stack.
- Experience with one or more of the following: machine learning, pattern recognition, or data mining.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
In Addition at the SES.3 Level
- Advanced knowledge in computer vision, algorithm development, and significant experience with one or more of the following: machine learning, pattern recognition, or data mining.
- Significant experience with one or more higher-level programming languages such as C/C++, Java/Scala, or Python and with one or more scientific analysis and prototyping environment such as MATLAB or the SciPy Stack.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to author technical and scientific reports, publications, invited papers, and to deliver scientific presentations and provide advice to management, and effective interpersonal skills with ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.

Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
