For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have multiple openings for Electronics Technologists/Senior Electronics Technologists.  You will provide technical support for the deployment, maintenance, and operation of electronics equipment in support of the experimental program at the National Ignition Facility (NIF). NIF is a 24/7 operational facility. This position will require shift work (swing) and may at times require overtime or weekend work to accomplish goals.  This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.
This position will be filled at either the 531.2 or 531.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
Essential Duties
- Provide electronic assembly, test, documentation, installation and maintenance for controls systems hardware.
- Work from sketches, drawings, electronic schematics, verbal or written instructions, and solve problems to the sub-system or component level.
- Work with Safety Interlock Systems and other instrumentation calibration to diagnose intersystem issues.
- Work with Sub-System Managers to independently install, modify, test, analyze, troubleshoot, maintain and commission electronic instrumentation and equipment.
- Use of proprietary LLNL Integrated Computer Control System (ICCS) software.
- Update instructional guides for repairing, calibrating, and maintaining equipment and systems.
- Acquire and analyze basic data and test results using known performance parameters to report results and identify problems.

In Addition at the 531.3 Level
- Establish circuit or systems parameters using advanced electronics circuitry, scientific knowledge, engineering principles, and mathematical calculations.  Write or interpret specifications used in crafting, maintaining, and calibrating electronic systems, chassis, or components.
- Acquire and analyze complex preliminary data during design or prototyping of components, systems, or equipment, identify problems, and establish or modify guidelines, techniques and procedures.
- Lead daily work scope activities of other technicians.
- Associate’s degree in electronics technology or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience working in a large-scale manufacturing or scientific research facility operations environment.
- Intermediate skills, knowledge, and abilities of electronic circuits and systems.
- Ability to apply general electronic, electro-mechanical and/or electro-optic knowledge to a breadth of applications and/or systems.
- Experience in safe work and business practices.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
In Addition at the 531.3 Level
- Advanced understanding and experience in electronics technology and background in both theory and design and ability to apply electronic knowledge to a breadth of electronic circuits and systems.
- High level technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems in a large-scale manufacturing or scientific research facility operations environment.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, feedback, and teamwork skills and abilities, and experience providing technical direction to others.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with industrial instrumentation and control systems, programmable logic controller/programmable automation controller software, to implement parameter modifications and revisions.
- Experience with AC/DC electrical and electronic applications.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code NFPA 70 and NFPA70E standards.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
