For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the area of observational analysis and model diagnosis with the goal of understanding the physical processes associated with shallow cumulus clouds and their transition to deep convection. This position is in the Cloud Processes Research and Modeling group in the Atmospheric, Earth and Energy Division.

Essential Duties
- Conduct original research on the processes governing variability in cloud properties and turbulent structures in response to changes of environmental factors.
- Contribute to the conception, design, and execution of research in the area of shallow cumulus and deep convection using both observation and modeling tools.
- Publish research results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals and present technical results at scientific conferences.
- Travel as required to coordinate research with collaborators.
- Pursue complementary research interests through independent collaboration with other scientists and technical staff both internal and external.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Recent PhD in atmospheric science or closely related field.
- Experience conducting research in atmospheric science or a closely related field.
- Knowledge in one or more key areas: cloud processes, atmospheric boundary layer turbulence, convection parameterization, or cloud modeling.
- Experience with data collected by the Department of Energy Atmospheric Radiation Measurement program or other similar in-situ or ground-based boundary layer and cloud profiling measurements.
- Experience with model analysis and diagnosis of general circulation or regional models, large-eddy simulations or cloud resolving models.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by published results and presentations.
- Ability to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary research teams and to collaborate productively with diverse scientific colleagues both internal and external to the LLNL.

Security Clearance:  None required.

Note:   This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
