For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member to research the applications of first-principles adiabatic and non-adiabatic molecular dynamics. You will address problems related to energy dissipation, transport and temperature equilibration in materials, non local-thermodynamic-equilibrium effects (different electron and ion temperatures) and quantum-classical coupling. The work will be performed within the Quantum Simulations Group in the Physics Division.
Essential Duties
- Program code that implements theoretical development.
- Present formal and informal overview of research progress at weekly meetings.
- Publish research results in external peer-reviewed scientific journals and participate in international conferences.
- Conduct research in molecular dynamics.
- Perform technical assignments and provide technical support to scientists in scientific research and development projects. 
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Recent PhD in Physics or a related discipline.
- Experience in the use of first-principles electronic structure methods and molecular dynamics.
- Experience devising efficient codes on modern computing platforms to solve complex problems in condensed matter physics.
- Experience with electronic structure and first principles molecular dynamics calculations.
- Decision-making skills necessary to independently solve problems.
- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
- Initiative, interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of stochastic dynamics, and quantum or classical dissipative systems. 
- Knowledge in statistical and analytical techniques for large and complex data set.
- Experience in programming, Fortran, C/C++ or scripting languages with experience in computer simulations of quantum systems.

Note:   This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
